Είμαι ο ιερός καθεδρικός και προσκυνηματικός ναός της Αγίας Σοφίας! Βρίσκομαι στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Θεσσαλονίκης, στην ομώνυμη πλατεία, στη συμβολή των οδών Αγίας Σοφίας και Ερμού. Αφιερωμένος στη Σοφία και τον Λόγο του Θεού, δηλαδή στον Χριστό, ανήκω στα πιο σημαντικά παλαιοχριστιανικά μνημεία της Ελλάδας και ολόκληρης της Ορθοδοξίας.
Από τον 8ο αιώνα έως τη μετατροπή μου σε τζαμί (1523-1524) ήμουν ο καθεδρικός ναός της πόλης και συχνά στα ιστορικά κείμενα αναφερομαι ως «Μεγάλη Εκκλησία». Κατά τη διάρκεια της Λατινοκρατίας (1204-1224) μετατράπηκα σε καθεδρικό ναό των Λατίνων και επανήλθα στους Ορθοδόξους το 1224, μετά την ανακατάληψη της Θεσσαλονίκης από τους Βυζαντινούς. Περίπου εκατό χρόνια μετά την κατάκτηση της πόλης από τους Οθωμανούς (1430) μετατράπηκα σε τζαμί, διατηρώντας το αρχικό μου όνομα (Aya Sofya Camii). Κάηκα όμως στη μεγάλη πυρκαγιά του 1890 και αναστηλώθηκα κατά τα έτη 1907-1909. Το 1913, μετά την απελευθέρωση της πόλης από τους Τούρκους, αποδόθηκα ξανά στη χριστιανική λατρεία και τελέστηκε Θεία Λειτουργία.
Θα σας εντυπωσιάσω με τα υπέροχα ψηφιδωτά μου από τον μακρινό 9ο αιώνα, αλλά και με τις τοιχογραφίες μου από τον 11ο αιώνα!

I am the holy cathedral and pilgrimage church of Agia Sophia! I am located in the historical center of Thessaloniki, in the homonymous square, at the junction of Agia Sophia and Ermou streets. Dedicated to Wisdom and the Word of God, that is Jesus Christ, I belong to the most important early Christian monuments of Greece and the whole Orthodoxy.
From the 8th century until my conversion into a mosque (1523-1524) I was the cathedral of the city and I am often referred to in historical texts as the "Great Church". During the Latin occupation (1204-1224) I was converted into a Latin cathedral and reverted to the Orthodox in 1224, after the Byzantine reconquest of Thessaloniki. About a hundred years after the conquest of the city by the Ottomans (1430) I was converted into a mosque, retaining my original name (Aya Sofya Camii). But I was burnt down in the great fire of 1890 and was restored in the years 1907-1909. In 1913, after the liberation of the city from the Turks, I was restored to Christian worship and a Divine Liturgy was celebrated. Ι will impress you with my splendid mosaics dating back to the 9th century besides my murals since the 11th century!

Ich bin die heilige Kathedrale und die Wallfahrtskirche der Hagia Sophia! Ich befinde mich im historischen Zentrum von Thessaloniki, auf dem gleichnamigen Platz, an der Kreuzung der Straßen Agia Sofia und Ermou. Der Weisheit und dem Wort Gottes, also Christus, gewidmet, gehöre ich zu den bedeutendsten frühchristlichen Denkmälern Griechenlands und der gesamten Orthodoxie.
Vom 8. Jahrhundert bis zu ihrer Umwandlung in eine Moschee (1523–1524) war sie die Kathedrale der Stadt und wird in historischen Texten oft als „Große Kirche“ bezeichnet. Während der lateinischen Besetzung (1204-1224) wurde ich in eine Kathedrale der Lateiner umgewandelt und fiel 1224, nach der Rückeroberung Thessalonikis durch die Byzantiner, wieder an die Orthodoxie zurück. Etwa hundert Jahre nach der Eroberung der Stadt durch die Osmanen (1430) wurde ich unter Beibehaltung meines ursprünglichen Namens (Aya Sofya Camii) in eine Moschee umgewandelt. Aber ich wurde bei dem großen Brand von 1890 verbrannt und in den Jahren 1907-1909 restauriert. Im Jahr 1913, nach der Befreiung der Stadt von den Türken, wurde ich wieder dem christlichen Gottesdienst gewidmet und es wurde eine göttliche Liturgie gefeiert.
Ich werde Sie mit meinen wunderbaren Mosaiken aus dem fernen 9. Jahrhundert, aber auch mit meinen Fresken aus dem 11. Jahrhundert beeindrucken!

Je suis la Sainte Cathédrale et Église de la Sagesse (Aghia Sofia) ! Je me trouve au centre historique de Thessalonique, sur la place éponyme, à l'intersection des rues Aghia Sofia et Ermou. Consacrée à la Sagesse et au Verbe de Dieu, c'est-à-dire au Christ, j'appartiens aux monuments paléochrétiens les plus importants de Grèce et de l'ensemble de l'Orthodoxie.
Du VIIIe siècle jusqu'à ma transformation en mosquée (1523-1524), j'étais la cathédrale de la ville et je suis souvent mentionnée dans les textes historiques sous le nom de «Grande Église». Pendant la période de la Latinocratie (1204-1224), j'ai été convertie en cathédrale des Latins, puis je suis revenue aux Orthodoxes en 1224, après la reconquête de Thessalonique par les Byzantins. Environ cent ans après la conquête de la ville par les Ottomans (1430), je suis devenue une mosquée, tout en conservant mon nom d'origine (Aya Sofya Camii). Cependant, j'ai été incendiée lors du grand incendie de 1890 et j'ai été restaurée entre 1907 et 1909. En 1913, après la libération de la ville par les Turcs, j'ai été à nouveau consacrée au culte chrétien et une Divine Liturgie a été célébrée.
