Είμαι η ΧΑΝΘ. Η μακρά μου διαδρομή ξεκινά σχεδόν έναν αιώνα πριν, όταν το 1918 εθελοντές αμερικανικών ΧΑΝ φτάνουν στην πόλη για να οργανώσουν τα «Σπίτια του Στρατιώτη», δηλαδή σπίτια που κάλυπταν ανάγκες σίτισης και ψυχαγωγίας των ελληνικών και συμμαχικών στρατιωτικών δυνάμεων που πολεμούσαν στο Μακεδονικό Μέτωπο. Λίγο αργότερα, μέλη της αμερικανικής ΧΑΝ φέρνουν στην Ελλάδα, το άθλημα του μπάσκετ και του βόλεϊ που εφευρέθηκαν σε Κολέγια της ΧΑΝ στην Μασαχουσέτη το 1891 και το 1895, αντίστοιχα.
Το 1921 ιδρύεται η ΧΑΝ Θεσσαλονίκης, από λαμπρές προσωπικότητες της πόλης, όπως ο Μητροπολίτης Θεσσαλονίκης Γεννάδιος και ο Νομάρχης Ν. Παρασκευόπουλος. Από την πρώτη στιγμή της λειτουργίας μου φαίνεται το ανθρώπινό μου πρόσωπο. Η πορεία μου συνεχίζεται απρόσκοπτα τα επόμενα χρόνια. Αγγίζω τις ζωές ολοένα και περισσοτέρων ανθρώπων, αναπτύσσοντας οργανωμένες δομές για όσους έχουν ανάγκη και παράλληλα με την ενεργή δράση μου εμπνέω ολόκληρη την τοπική κοινωνία.
Η δικτατορία Μεταξά, διέκοψε τη λειτουργία μου. Το 1946, ανασυγκροτούμαι και ξεκινώ και πάλι στο στίβο της προσφοράς. Στην πορεία μου έχω ενεργοποιήσει χιλιάδες Θεσσαλονικείς και η δράση μου επεκτείνεται μέσα από παραρτήματα και κατασκηνώσεις.
Με διαφάνεια και αξιοπιστία, συνέπεια και σταθερότητα, κατάφερα να οδηγήσω την καθημερινότητα της τοπικής κοινωνίας και των νέων ανθρώπων της πόλης σε μια νέα εποχή. Γιατί η ιστορία της ΧΑΝΘ είναι οι άνθρωποί της.

I am YMCA. My long journey begins almost a century ago, when in 1918 American YMCA volunteers arrived in the city to organize the “Soldier’s Homes”, that is, houses that covered the food and entertainment needs of the Greek and allied military forces fighting on the Macedonian Front. Shortly thereafter, members of the American YMCA brought to Greece the sports of basketball and volleyball, which were invented at YMCA Colleges in Massachusetts in 1891 and 1895, respectively.
In 1921, the YMCA of Thessaloniki was founded by brilliant personalities of the city, such as the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Gennadios and the Prefect N. Paraskevopoulos. From the first moment of my operation, my social face was visible. My path continued uninterruptedly in the following years. I touch the lives of more and more people, developing organized structures for those in need and, at the same time, with my active action, I inspire the entire local community.
The Metaxas dictatorship interrupted my operation. In 1946, I regrouped and started again in the arena of service. Along the way, I have activated thousands of Thessaloniki residents and my action is expanding through branches and camps.
With transparency and reliability, consistency and stability, I managed to lead the daily life of the local community and the young people of the city into a new era. Because the history of YMCA is its people.

Ich bin die ΧΑΝΘ. Meine lange Reise begann fast vor einem Jahrhundert, als 1918 freiwillige Helfer der amerikanischen YMCA in die Stadt kamen, um die „Soldatenhäuser“ zu organisieren – Unterkünfte, die den griechischen und alliierten Streitkräften, die an der mazedonischen Front kämpften, Verpflegung und Unterhaltung boten. Wenig später brachten Mitglieder der amerikanischen YMCA nach Griechenland die Sportarten Basketball und Volleyball, die 1891 bzw. 1895 an YMCA-Colleges in Massachusetts erfunden worden waren.
1921 wurde die YMCA von Thessaloniki von herausragenden Persönlichkeiten der Stadt gegründet, darunter Metropolit Gennadios von Thessaloniki und Gouverneur N. Paraskevopoulos. Von Anfang an zeigte sich mein menschliches Gesicht. Mein Weg setzte sich in den folgenden Jahren ungehindert fort. Ich berührte das Leben immer mehr Menschen, indem ich organisierte Strukturen für Bedürftige entwickelte und gleichzeitig mit meinem aktiven Engagement die gesamte lokale Gemeinschaft inspirierte.
Die Metaxas-Diktatur unterbrach meine Tätigkeit. 1946 wurde ich neu organisiert und begann erneut meinen Weg des Engagements. Im Laufe der Jahre habe ich Tausende von Bürgern Thessalonikis mobilisiert, und meine Aktivitäten haben sich durch Zweigstellen und Ferienlager weiter ausgedehnt.
Mit Transparenz und Zuverlässigkeit, Konsequenz und Stabilität ist es mir gelungen, den Alltag der lokalen Gemeinschaft und der jungen Menschen in der Stadt in eine neue Ära zu führen. Denn die Geschichte der ΧΑΝΘ sind ihre Menschen

Je suis la ΧΑΝΘ (Fraternité Chrétienne des Jeunes de Thessalonique). Mon long parcours commence il y a presque un siècle, lorsque, en 1918, des volontaires de la Fraternité Chrétienne américaine arrivent dans la ville pour organiser les « Maisons du Soldat », c'est-à-dire des maisons qui couvraient les besoins alimentaires et récréatifs des forces militaires grecques et alliées combattant sur le front macédonien. Peu après, des membres de la la Fraternité Chrétienne américaine apportent en Grèce les sports du basket-ball et du volley-ball, inventés dans les collèges de la Fraternité Chrétienne du Massachusetts en 1891 et 1895, respectivement.
En 1921, la ΧΑΝΘ (Fraternité Chrétienne des Jeunes de Thessalonique) est fondée par des personnalités illustres de la ville, telles que l'Archevêque de Thessalonique, Gennadios, et le Préfet N. Paraskevopoulos. Dès le début de mon fonctionnement, mon visage humain est apparent. Mon parcours continue sans interruption dans les années suivantes. J'atteins de plus en plus de vies, en développant des structures organisées pour ceux qui en ont besoin, tout en inspirant la communauté locale par mes actions.
La dictature de Metaxas a interrompu mon fonctionnement. En 1946, je me réorganise et je recommence à œuvrer à nouveau. Tout au long de mon parcours, j'ai activé des milliers de Thessaloniciens, et mon action s'étend à travers des succursales et des camps.
Avec transparence et fiabilité, cohérence et stabilité, j'ai réussi à guider la vie quotidienne de la société locale et des jeunes de la ville vers une nouvelle ère. Car l'histoire de la ΧΑΝΘ (Fraternité Chrétienne des Jeunes de Thessalonique), ce sont ses membres.
